Sam Zacher & I have a paper under review basically to this effect. Among Democrats, renters have distinct left preferences in candidates (e.g. Sanders) and housing reforms (broadly YIMBYism). We find less distinction among Dem renters and homeowners with national social policy prefs.

Democrats mostly campaign on economics.
In addition to @rachelporter.bsky.social's evidence, this is true for the national party's platforms and legislative priorities, and what Dem MCs tweet about, regardless of their district or if they are a Progressive!

Can't help but compare their story about No Kings yesterday to the anti-immigration protests in London last month. "Large crowds" when it's millions of left to center ppl and "huge crowd" when its tens of thousands of rightwingers (not remotely similar mobilization even controlling for US vs UK pop)

The CR is obvs different, but Senate Democrats' behavior is reminiscent of the fact that on ave 48% of D senators voted for bills pertaining to GOP agenda (as IDed by Curry & Lee) each Congress w R trifecta, 2003-2022. The inverse for Rs is 12%

my parents' neighbor is the GOP nominee in CA-02. he's softly anti-Trump & acknowledges climate change. he will v likely lose general (weird Dem rural district that spans Golden Gate-Oregon).
fascinating as a polisky researcher of intraparty ideological differences in congressional candidates!

Made my anonymous NYT research debut as one of
@jacobhacker.bsky.social's "three colleagues" (along with Sam Zacher & Paul Pierson) in a mention of our forthcoming article on what's actually going on with the Democratic Party's domestic policy agenda
