🌱 my garden has moved along well from 4 weeks ago. The Asian Greens are ready to pick and the Pak Choy isn’t far behind. The blackbirds are eating the lettuce and so it is still covered. The bees are loving the Cinnamon Basil so hopefully it will bloom for a little longer. 🇦🇺

🌱 Aussie here. I am still picking tomatoes in May - very unusual for me - although we have had a very warm Autumn.

🌱 I have blackbird proofed my just sprouted veggie seedlings. Seems to be working. I love to have birds in my garden - just need to minimise the destruction.

🌱 We finally had some rain after a very dry summer. It has only taken five days for the borage to self seed - the bees will have something to take back to the hive during winter. 🇦🇺

🌱 The seasons will be changing soon so and it’s time.

I’ll be leaving one garden bed to the birds and pollinators for a few months. While I start getting the other ready for some cool weather vegetables. It has been a really dry summer and the garden beds are feeling the heat.

🌱 I think the time has come. The vertical zucchini is showing some new growth but it’s not flourishing - the recent heatwave was too much for it. I’ll be growing this way again next season - this plant has given an abundant harvest.

🌱 The last of the sunflowers are blooming. I guess this will also be the end of my summer garden.

🌱 I’m hoping the vertical zucchini will recover. Our area had 6 days of temperatures over 35 Celsius (95f) 3 of those days were 40 Celsius (104f). The ground sprawling zucchini’s managed the heat really well.

🌱🇦🇺 zucchini update. The vertical zucchini is growing really well. The stem is now 70 cm (27 inches) from the ground to the lowest leaf. Every 5 or so days I trim the leaves below the new flowers and add another tie to the stem.

🇦🇺🌱. I hate lovegrass. I can’t find anything lovely about it. At the moment I’m sitting here with magnifying glasses and a pair of tweezers trying to pull the remnants of this freaking weed out of my new gardening sleeve.

🇦🇺🌱 I know I have posted photos of my zinnias before but they just look so happy. If you look hard at the centre top you can see a ladybug. I leave the flowers outside for 30 minutes after I cut them to try and encourage all the ladybugs to fly away. This one didn’t get the memo.

🌱 The Blue Sea Holly is in bloom and the pollinators are loving it.

🌱 Someone needs to breed a zucchini that tastes like chocolate- then I bet I could give them away. But no - so tomorrow we make more zucchini relish. 😞

🌱 I have just chopped down this Giant Russian sunflower. I want to keep the seeds as birdseed. Do I just put this seed head in a bag and let it dry out?

🌱 My zinnia plants have become the ladybug nursery. Most of the adults seem have gone and I just have these little ones in amongst the leaves.

🌱 The vertical zucchini is growing really well and not needing as much maintenance as I thought it would.

🌱 Zinnias are such good value - and the bees seem to agree - I had to fight them off to pick these. 🐝

🌱 In my area of Victoria we have problems with Queensland Fruit Fly. They are very small insects but they cause massive losses to backyard crops - especially tomatoes and capsicum. I have netted up every one of my tomato plants and so far so good.

🌱 My Gladdies are starting to bloom. I think Dame Edna would approve. 🇦🇺

🌱 The petunias are looking happy this year. We have a hot weekend coming up (42c - 107f) so hopefully they survive. 🇦🇺

🌱 The zucchini plant is still cooperating and growing vertically. The 4th black tie is 45 cm (18 inches) from the base of the plant. 🇦🇺

🌱 I know summer is here when the rudbeckia starts to flower.

🌱 My harvest might be small but they will be delicious all the same.
I love berry season.

🌱 The Blue Banded Bee (Australian native bee) is one of the special guests in my garden. They first appear in November and seem to favour the purple coloured plants.

🌱 First sunflower of the season. Bees will love it when she’s fully in bloom.
