you've heard of "this is more of a comment than a question" but have you ever encountered its twin:

As Humanities depts are being shut down all over the world, Digital Hollywood University is going in the complete opposite direction. Maybe we can rebrand DEI measures as measures conductive to "luxuriant imagination"?(to be taken with a mountain of salt as this is very much a for profit university)

Let’s try food waste in kyoto!
But don’t you even think of littering!
Seen at Otoya near Nishiki Shijo

I would say this is a prime example of how AI is not the silver bullet for translation

#3 #japanesepolitics poster
I’ll end the day with this gem from 2020 I found when I was living in Itabashi, Tokyo
Give it up for this treasure of a politician whose platform in May 2020 was “Corona is just a cold”
(Love how ただの is in teeny tiny, as if admitting that even a cold can be serious)

#2 of #japanesepolitics posters is a collection of the Tokyo governor posters from July 2024
My favorite are AI mayor, the guy who was promising legalizing harems, and the Voicaloid Goto Teruki whose platform was to sing peace into the world
These were outside of Sophia University

When I arrived in Japan 2 years ago I was fascinated by the campaign posters and told myself I’ll collect them like Pokémon and post them online
Here’s to that promise

Hello friends! I thought I would introduce myself for once.
I'm Alexandra, and I am a Romanian PhD student in Japan trying to marry the fields of creative labour and Asian studies. I am a big Hamilton fan. When I have the bandwidth I paint. I post about Kyoto indie game meetups. 200 words are not en

There is a very cozy bar in Gion, Kyoto where they don’t have a menu. The bartender asks for your preference and prepares a bespoke cocktail, or whatever you’d prefer. I asked him for a “post-election sadness cure” and he delivered. The burn i felt after the first sip was cauterizing

Badly, this aged badly
And a bit self indulgent
Glad to have been able to buy this, for historical conservation purposes
You know to show an example of how people get drunk on tap water when they believe their own lies

But my personal favorite part of the museum was the rag doll collection
I grew up in the post communist transition period in Romania so most of my toys *were* rag dolls, which is why I probably felt most drawn to them
I was also a huge The Flinstones fan, so seeing a Pebbles doll melted my heart

We were also allowed to visit the museum archive where their lovely curator let us walk around and take pictures of their impressive collection. I felt like most people were on the verge of tears from all the excitement

I can finally post a few pictures from the Strong museum in Rochester
Replaying Japan was such an amazing experience and including the Strong in the program made traveling yo the US 150% worth it
There’s a lot more to say but first I’ll leave you with these vintage pinball machines

This is and might remain my favorite memory from NYC. I found Dirk Vis` ``manual`` on how to do research for artists while I was on a hunt for other design books for my partner. It really reminds me of my BA days when I would spend 90% of my time analysing visual content
