Author, artist, game dev. Querying middle grade trans thieves; writing adult short fic about lacemaking orcs, nebbish unicorns, trans sky captains, and more. Half of VaporwaveGothic Studios; worked with Black Chicken Studios and small indie teams.
www.iwm.org.uk/collections/... Another resource I found today that is incredibly useful for anyone writing about the World Wars: the Imperial War Museum has a huge, publically-searchable archive of photographs, writing, and *film*.
If you want visceral detail, you will find at least some here.

Versus the thing I was actually searching for, which I found by changing 'water mill gate' to 'sluice gate':

I love medieval fantasy (heck, I'm writing some), but I hate how much medieval fantasy has polluted the Google search results for anything related to the middle ages.

This is what I get when I search for "water mill gate medieval":

I finally fixed the cover for The Unicorn's Beard!

I was never satisfied with it- I got a cover off Fiverr and got exactly what I asked for, unfortunately. But I've leveled up my graphic design skills a few times (thanks, Sims) and can make my own covers, now!

Went to see Shakespeare in the Park last weekend. Going again tomorrow. If you're in greater CLE, highly recommend this take on the Scottish Play!!

@auahdark.bsky.social Hey, I hate to ask, but I'm not very good at hacking and I'm getting a bit of an odd error message when I'm trying to install NPPS4- could you help?

@edfinch.bsky.social - If you like classic middle-grade lit (or are looking for something for classrooms), check out I HEAR YOU'VE GOT DRAGONS by Peter S. Beagle! It's classic fantasy adventure by the guy who wrote THE LAST UNICORN- bittersweet (thus far), but full of laughter and heart.

@elijah.mea.rs If you like transmasc NB narratives, Weird Internet Short Fiction, and are up for a Kafka fanfic, check out my short story CHRYSALIS.
On the internet, no one knows you're a bug... unless you tell them. A love story to the internet and the weird people there who help us survive.

@debbievilardi.bsky.social If you like MG fantasy about brave girl heroes, check out THE SPINDLE OF FATE by Aimee Lim. Evie Mei sets out to save her mom from Diyu- the Chinese Underworld- armed with her courage and a few scraps of magic. Like PJO meets Turning Red.
January 3, 2025 at 5:44 PM
@eishelin.bsky.social I'm going to recommend you a game, not a book- HOMICIPHER is a horror otome VN where you decipher the language of a bunch of monstrous pretty boys and escape a nightmare world. It's like if Chants of Senaar and Silent Hill had a baby, and the baby grew up to be bishie.
January 3, 2025 at 5:40 PM
@zhinxy.bsky.social If you like X-Men (especially classic X-Men), check out THE GIRL WITH THE SILVER EYES by Willo Davis Roberts. It's classic MG science fiction about a girl who doesn't quite fit into the world, and The Power Of Friendship (And This Autism I Found).
January 3, 2025 at 5:36 PM
@marscardua.bsky.social If you like Scarlet Hollow, Digimon, and disabled/working class stories, check out THE LUMBERING GIANTS OF WINDY PINES by Gabe Netz.

With her dad's LARP sword, her morbid best friend, and her pocket-sized dragon, Jerry must investigate the spooky town of Windy Pines.

But Santa is a kids' movie about standing up to unjust authority and making the world better.

It's way less mean spirited than Rudolph, and it's way more thoughtfully constructed.

If you haven't watched it yet, consider giving it a go before the holidays are over. It's a real treat.
December 26, 2024 at 6:43 PM
It's an incredibly hippie-inflected movie, down to the future Mrs. Claus having a three-minute long acid trip in the middle.
December 26, 2024 at 6:32 PM
Santa, on the other hand, has a pretty consistent thesis. People- and societies- can be better.

And *making* the world better requires love, generosity, and a heavy dose of civil disobedience.
December 26, 2024 at 6:25 PM
So we all agree that Rudolph's main aesop is broken, right? It's supposed to be "be nice to people who are different", but it instead comes off as... well...

this is the mod list that never ends
it just goes on and on my friends
some people started adding it not knowing what it was
and they will keep on adding it forever just because--

We finished the alpha build of our game for the Foundry Game Jam!
It's no DL-6, but Polly here remembers...
November 18, 2024 at 5:19 AM
A bit of late-night crunch-time #gamedev - we're trying to submit this to the Foundry jam on monday and need to get this to playtesters by tomorrow afternoon!

Hey, you want trans science fantasy?

Asteroid dwarves, gravity hijinks, transmasc protagonist, and a transphobe getting Comeuppance.
November 16, 2024 at 9:59 PM
And these ads serve the same purpose as the absolutely bugwild covers on an old-school dime novel.

Look at this picture. Don't you want to read this story?

Does it matter if the story is actually any good, or actually features Dynamite Colonel Sanders? You're still gonna buy it.

It started out as people making sprite edits to show off their trollsona/fankid, but they were SO cute, and people liked them SO much, that people who *didn't* get into homestuck started making edits too.

Exhibit A) feat. ancient sins.
November 13, 2024 at 4:55 AM
Pixel families were a Tumblr fandom thing in 2011-2013. They were sprite edits of these Homestuck ministrife sprites made by Feastings. People would put them on their tumblrs as decoration, as a cute way to show off their friendgroup/main fandoms, or as a shipping wall... (🧵)
