2020s Penelope, pre-digital, Drawn and colored by hand, hadn't really figured out how to draw plus sized body types yet, I had probably just decided recently at this time to give her slime hair and beans. Her sweater references one of my favorite horror games Yume Nikki. Rainy Fall Daydream, I wanna say this one was, like, 2021 maybe. Even though it isn't perfect, it established what direction I wanted Penelope's design to go in, and I still use it as reference sometimes. You can probably google how to do the rain thing, but I feel it distorted the colors more than I like. I can't promise I'll ever do this, but I've thought about remastering this one. Here it is without the rain filter, see how much more the colors pop? Also that mushroom is a reference to Parasect. I used the photoshop leaf brush to create that tree, it looks okay, but it would probably look better if I did it fully by hand. It's Kumi! Named for the actress Kumi Mizuno, a Showa era Toho actress known most famously for Invasion of the Astro Monsters, it was a nickname I gave to my Hisuian Goodra in Pokémon Legends Arceus. I wanted to subtly reference indigenous Ainu designs with her dress while making it something different as well. Her clothes have Mercury motifs. I wanted to make her distinctively a different shape and color from Penelope so she wasn't just a rehash. I think of her as being more timid than Penelope, they're probably friends. This background was inspired by one of the things that kindled my interest in taking my art seriously, instead of just thinking of them as "doodles" which were Dr. Seuss's Midnight Paintings and Solar Sands's video on them (which I drew the first ever drawing of Penelope after watching.) The Mushrooms are another reference to the Game, Pokémon Legends Arceus, but also, I like that psychedelic and Alice inspired mushroom art.
