Top is an embroidery needle in a 7ish, bottom is the sashiko to get a sense of the length. Some folks with hand pain prefer a longer needle but I sometimes find them awkward.

Today was disasters 1 and 2. First the cat, evil gremlin as she is, knocked a plant off the shelf and into my neatly pinned and stacked quilt blocks.

This has been a week of minor disasters, of the sort that creates a big mess.
First on Wednesday I was attempting to rinse some dishes and the hose for the sink sprayer came disconnected and soaked the cabinet and it's contents.
