Indeed. And withholding spare parts, updates and crucial information tells every future US armaments customer that the US might do the same when they decide that your conflict should not go your way. That's a perfect advertisement for the European armaments industries.

Did that ever happen?

It is indeed remarkable that the country even now allows the import of only EVs for private use. And because of tariff rules they are even more afordable than fossil-fueled cars.

Sorry, no, Jeffrey Sachs is not pro-Ukraine, and he never talked at the EU, but at events in EU offices sponsored by the German Sarah Wagenknecht Movement, repeating Kremlin narratives, and telling everyone that Ukraine defending itself is not in the European interest. Don't fall for this propaganda

5% in the German context conveniently includes 1.5% for roads and bridges suitable to support tanks, so in effect it's a large infrastructure program camouflaged as military spending.

Well, in fact, it's 2025, and that may explain everything.

That optimism may be misplaced. Merz's only coalition partner will be Scholz's SPD, but without Scholz. I fear that the next foreign minister will be Ralf Stegner, and he is an outspoken friend of Russia and represents a lot of the thinking in that party. I miss the Greens in the coalition.

What's clear is that AfD has the most successful presence on TikTok, as the other parties really have no plan on how to present themselves there. I think foreign influence is very likely, but always deniable, and that's all that matters.

Those days are over, unfortunately. In my very Western part of Germany the AfD gained between 20 and 25% of the votes in recent elections. This is still a regional outlier, but there's no denying that they are gaining widespread support, and Elon Musks endorsement will probably help with that.

I wish you were right about this, as a German, but I fear that in the end it may even advance their cause. Has AfD reached its full potential in Germany already? As long as the established parties keep adopting their talking points, more and more people in Germany will feel it's ok to think so, too.

This has nothing to do with North Korea. Smells more like a move to end democracy in South Korea by someone who needs to fear the next election.
