This. I do this as well now. In some cases I've been more aware of what is happening in *their* country as well- especially true for Americans.
I've started trying to inject even small things about what's going on into daily interactions to gauge how much folks know, and lord there's just no visibility to even the mildly awful bits. Cursed by knowledge.

Cannot believe the timeline we're living in. But also very not surprised?
Trump: "I said to [the former hostages], was there any sign of love? Did Hamas show any signs of, like, help or liking you? Did they give you a piece of bread extra? Did they give you a meal on the side? Like what happened in Germany."
