For those interested, here is the 1773 map with this very odd shaped course, just as it was about to change with the advent of the Leger. The family name, incidentally, was pronounced Sallinger. This course was essentially by Rose Hill. There was a previous course near the present one before that.

Here is the OS 1st ed, with the course... the deaf and dumb institution is still there, or was the last time I went, one never knows nowadays...

Here is the map, which I dated 1895, but this edition was done over a number of years... it shows a home straight too, which the photo yesterday seems to negate. JC regulations stipulated a straight of a mile by 1900 for most courses, but D was historic...

Crewkerne is in vol 2 of Strongholds of Satan, SW and Wales, with this picture. There were several courses at C, all covered by drone shots, one of which held a pretty disastrous National Hunt Meeting.

This is the best shot of Keele and is in Strongholds of Satan Vol 3. If you stop at the service station on M6 heading north and walk up out of the area, near where a bridge crosses the Mway and look what is west, you can visualise. There is a drone shot in the book, plus all the info...
