In Catholic high school we had an entire class called "Catholic Social Teaching". A major portion was about the dignity of the human person, and emphasized not dehumanizing others. Charitable work and empathy were huge parts of the class.
It's a large part of what made me a leftist.

It feels even more banal than that. Like they just want to be able to fly home for Thanksgiving.
