Some writers buy themselves a pizza, others savor a special drink, I used to buy myself a new pen with each rejection. This year, I turned the haunting of rejection into literal ghosties. #writingcommunity #writesky #crafty

Thanks to @theglobeandmail.com for the amazing obituary on my uncle, Mark Thompson.
It felt really special to honor him, someone who worked so hard for the rights of workers, on Labor Day weekend. Safe passage Uncle Mark. 🩷 (Alt text folks- I’ll post a link to the article in a comment.)

Sealey by the sea. Brought my stack of poems (and journals) to the shore for a little reading and catch up. #Sealeychallenge #poetry

Thank you @theprosepoem.bsky.social for recognizing my piece Mountain Flower Homily and for the comments about our shared human experience of heaviness. Poetry is something that lifts all boats. Glad to be a part of it. #poetry #writerscommunity

In the past, I’ve tried the #SealeyChallenge to get myself to try reading new poets or forms. This year, I’ve found reading poetry every day helps with stress.
Yesterday was mashed potatoes. So glad I have the challenge to get me to do this reading. Rita Dove in the car for 5 mins helped!

Starting the Sealey Challenge at the end of a rough week? Actually perfect. I’ve decided to count chapbooks for the challenge. Absolutely adored Adriana Cloud’s Instructions for Building a WindChime from @poetrysociety.org

Forgot to celebrate gotcha day for this pretty kitty - 2 weeks and 7 years ago I went to the shelter for a different cat who an hour earlier was adopted by someone else. Came home with this one. Despite her RBF, she is the friendliest little cuddler and yes does not miss a meal. #caturday

My spicy meatball for a brain disassembled today (tech issue, blood draw, family health) & this was the highly specific recipe it asked for recuperation.

Ocean Vuong book + Toblerone chocolate + a desperately old issue of @slipperyelmlj.bsky.social (true story, lit mags don’t have a shelf life).

Went in for one book came out with a week’s worth of @sealeychallenge.bsky.social options (renewable online!). Hooray for libraries!

I found the poem Absence has a grammar by @fionalarkin.bsky.social today (in searching for mentor poem on word structure), & after reading about the lost & missing in the Texas flood, it seems resonant. sharing in case it builds a bit of shelter for anyone.

Stumbled on this piece by @ghostlyverse.bsky.social in The Skipjack Review. Really glad to have read it on today, of all days. Happy Fourth of July.

I don’t always agree with @aoc.bsky.social on policy but ya’ll - this truly genuine smile at a constituent being safe and free is the level to which all politicians should aspire.

It’s not a high bar: Just care more about us than your polls, please.

Especially the folks at risk.

All I’ve wanted all week is to curl up on the couch with a blanket and read poetry. Pretty excited that my shipment from @sarabandebooks.bsky.social rolled in right at (theoretically) quitting time on Friday.

This smile belongs to Kenny G, world’s chillest dog, who is available for anyone needing a smile today at Metro Nashville Animal Care & Control .
I just can’t with this lil dude; he’s way too cute.

After last night’s flash flood, we found this little nestling mourning dove in a bad spot on the road. So many great wildlife rescue places helped get him to Walden’s Puddle wildlife rehab.

started using this powder on our dog’s food at the recommendation for dealing with his tartar. After 6 mo, vet said he had enough progress to forgo dental cleanings (he’s reactive, the vet is difficult, so we were motivated!). It’s cheap (about $30 for 4 or so months). It apparently tastes great.

Re: use of the Army against #LAprotests the nutshell series=books summarizing law & developments in concise nuggets. includes military law (e.g., when military CANNOT be used against civilians). Most recent edition is $$ $ but this one (see comment) goes for less than $10 on Amazon and eBay.
