I don't know how to social media but I think I'd like to. Profile photos are usually from decorating cakes with my kids.

Not sure how you sang it, but I read this to the tune of Bad Reputation

It was a joke, and a common format for one at that. Someone could just as easily read it as admiration of natural scientists taking initiative and putting their own bodies on the line for science. You chose to not only take it as an insult, but also make your feelings into OP's problem.

I agree. If it were implemented in a thoughtful way, considering all the potential problems and limitations of the system, I think it could work. I don't trust that whoever would be responsible for decisions around implementation and maintenance to give it the care and consideration it requires.

I hope that you can take me in good faith. I've been a fan for a long time and have come to trust that your opinions are well thought out. But all of your responses in this thread seem to be focused on the "but I think I need to speed in X situation" arguments and ignoring everything else.
December 13, 2025 at 10:27 PM
I agree that people shouldn't speed, and edge cases don't justify doing nothing. In this thread this person went over reasons why implementation could be a problem, but you're choosing to highlight this instead. Have you read and considered concerns beyond the ones that are easy to dunk on?

This is also my concern. Google maps pronounces "Iowa City" as "Lowa City" because it can't tell the difference between "I" and "l." My resistance boils down to whether I trust the powers that be to implement it thoughtfully rather than doing the quickest, cheapest thing. I do not. Maybe someday.

What is the CPSC's stance on gifting children nutcrackers?

None of that is to say that someone who was excited or even responded was wrong to do so. The wording of the email makes me think that people are getting the same thing with other podcasters' names, who might actually talk about good books. It's funny to see it applied to the absolute wrong person.

Yes! If Michael emailed me wanting to talk about something I'd written on a podcast, I'd fly into a panic trying to figure out what I had messed up so badly.

Losing a single wireless earbud 🙃

I always assumed that Dan was telling Jordan to set his mic down so it would be farther away from his mouth when he screamed.
December 3, 2025 at 12:53 AM
I'm glad you didn't feel that way. My perspective now is as an adult with anxiety and imposter syndrome so I couldn't say how I'd actually have felt at the time.
December 2, 2025 at 7:16 PM
I was diagnosed adhd as an adult so didn't have accomodations as a kid, but I suspect there's also some concern that not using the additional time would be used as "evidence" that you don't actually need accomodations at all.

I think it's recognizable with context clues, but honestly if I saw this picture without any references to pokemon, I don't know if I'd make that connection.

I think the worst bit is the thing in front of its face. It took me too long to understand what I was looking at because it really looks like that bit was assigned to the wrong layer and should be behind. They took a pokemon with an iconic face and stuck a rope in front of it for no apparent reason.

I'm in the same boat. The 2 apps I tried and liked a few years ago ended up discontinuing service shortly after I got settled with them. Pocketcasts has done the things I need it to do well enough in the last few weeks I've used it, so here's hoping.

I managed to miss a major story development that would have added intrigue and conflict, but the worldbuilding and story were so rich without it that I didn't notice until I read the novelizations. I thought they added this massive twist that wasn't in the books until I looked it up online.

Mary Lambert's cover of Jessie's Girl. Not strictly better, but more emotional and hits different

Then I have 1. I'm unlikely to buy a Switch 2 unless a new Zelda releases and it's on sale. I haven't forgotten getting burned by the Wii U and its promise of a console-exclusive Zelda that was delayed so long that it ended up also being a launch title for the Switch.

I don't even know what's current anymore. I guess my Switch isn't now. Does a Steam Deck (original, not OLED) count?
