Relocating to a new city in May, and experiencing a fresh hell of visa and moving problems. If I weren't motivated purely out of spite for the awful public transit back home, I would be on the first plane back.

Mina is always trying to get close to Bo, by pretending not to notice she's there. It just looks like she's dissociating <3

Switching to tea in the evening is a sustainable way to maintain productivity without the risk of a panic attack.

You can pry my 3 cups of coffee in the morning from my sweaty, palpitating hands.

Terrance Tao (one of the greatest mathematicians alive today) lost his main research grant after it was previously approved.

If it can happen to Terrance Tao, it can happen to anyone doing research in the USA.

Is China stealing the march on science talent as US funding cuts spare no one?
Trump-era cuts are hobbling US research, while China has stepped up efforts to attract science and tech talent, particularly mathematicians.

Lots of postdocs stress over their immigration to the US. The implication is that doing a postdoc at a "top" school is a golden ticket to a TT position.

Really though, nobody gives a shit what school you went to. Research productivity is the best metric for success and you can do that in Europe.
If you’re a student, come to, or remain in, Europe instead

I tried to update VScode and it insisted on installing a windows bootloader on my Linux hard drive and downloaded some weird NVIDIA drivers.

TBH I did not really like VScode all that much, and I was planning on learning Vim to eventually use NeoVim as my IDE. Maybe a little overkill but w.e.

This is a small funding instrument in Canada that enables researchers to help prop up a dying industry.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not think Canada is an advanced economy. Advanced economies invest more into economic diversification. Canada relies on its natural resource wealth. #science

Nobody wanted to adopt this FIV positive little guy, so we did a trial run to make sure there was no risk of violence between him and our other cats that could lead to transmission.

Turns out he is just a sweet man who just likes sitting on the bed with his tongue out. No problems.
