It's complicated. There are plenty of teachings that plenty of church authorities have benefited from ignoring or only partially applying over the centuries.

Yeah "brother" does a lot of work in Biblical Greek that doesn't necessarily carry into English. But this happens in English too - when my kids refer to all of my best friends as "Auntie so-and-so," it doesn't mean I have 5 sisters.
