So much of the waterford to limerick and limerick to cork traffic chocking towns is freigbt. And there are systems that dont require cranes and fright large freight yards.

There's also huge investment planned for Rosslare Europort which really should be coupled with investment in both passenger and freight rail in the area.

Aside from this line, several others have been removed from the plan. A new proposed long term project of creating a new line from Mullingar through Cavan and Monaghan to Portadown is gone.

The rail line to Shannon is gone.

The plan to double track the busy line between Maynooth and Mullingar is gone. It also serves Sligo and Longford. The proposed reopening of the line between Athlone and Mullingar is also gone.
