i’ll also never forget the time someone posted their “goliath beetle hunting” haul on the insect subreddit. 60+ specimen, taken out of the wild all in a short amount of time, for no purpose other than greed. i remember everyone was pissed in the comments

genuinely once i found out the ethics behind specimen trade i just kinda decided i would avoid it. i get so much more joy out of being able to care for an insect until its last moments anyways. that care makes the act of pinning them so much more intimate and special
