It just makes me mad that this isn't a major news story UNTIL it happens to a white person of means. People coming from south of the border could tell us millions of these stories, but we didn't care until now.

They don't care. They probably don't even know. Because a lot of them checked out after the election. Because politics is boring and Trump is going to fix everything so they don't have to deal with it.

We did that. It was the 1994 Crime Bill under Clinton, sponsored by Biden. It didn't stop the narrative that Dems are 'weak on crime.' You don't fight fire with fire. You fight it with water. You don't fight fascism with fascism. You invest in your communities and values and actual democracy.

No. No. And No. If we have to go so far to the right we're fascists what exactly have we gained? I've taught in prisons. We need less policing. We need more social programs. We need to invest in education and food programs. And we need to end mass incarceration which criminalizes poverty and trauma.

I would LOVE to hear more about AUCKUS from an Australian pov. I have so so many thoughts on how it's presented to the American people. One of my fave political/history writers drives me crazy because she is (IMO) too uncritical of the US as an empire. But I'm an Imperial historian so...

I really enjoyed running the one month I did it. ;) I have scoliosis and I ended up with injuries. My doctor said I would need to work up to being able to run. 🫣 I haven't given up on it, but I won't have time to do all the work to run until my kids are bigger. So glad you're back at it!!
