"Strikingly, there were more districts where the candidates prevailed by a fortress margin of 40 to 50 percentage points (55 of them) than districts where the outcomes were decided by five or fewer points (37)."

Don't forget this is true at the county level also.
Without the gerrymandered maps that North Carolina and Georgia adopted after the 2022 midterms, Democrats could likely have won a two-seat majority of 219–216 in the next House.
How Gerrymandering and Fair Maps Affected the Battle for the House
Four takeaways on how voting maps made the difference in a tight fight for the House in 2024.

I found this link on @karlbode.com . A good read.

"Democrats are missing something that is arguably a prerequisite for ideological messaging to have any effect whatsoever: a media apparatus that can get these messages in front of swing voters."
Democrats Lost the Propaganda War
The party used up about $5 billion on political ads in 2024. There’s a better way.

Alabama is blessed with fantastic political writers. @joshmoonal.bsky.social is one of the best. He also has a podcast, @alpoliticsthisweek.com, he hosts with David Person. You should give it a listen.
Three years ago, pretty much every company in America acknowledged a long history of discrimination in hiring and promotion. And there were grand promises to right those wrongs. Last week, those same companies were apologizing to white people for trying equality. www.alreporter.com/2024/12/04/o...
Opinion | We’re sorry, white people

If only we had large numbers of small farmers instead of a small number of corporations running farming.

Earl Butz became Secretary of Agriculture in 1971. He told farmers "Get big or get out."

In 1985, Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Neil Young launched Farm Aid.

Public policy matters.
Via @southdakotasearchlight.com: President-elect Donald Trump’s promise to levy tariffs on trade partners like China and some of his Cabinet picks have National Farmers Union President Rob Larew concerned about what farmers might see in the coming years.

ICYMI,

Alabama's own made it on Rachel Maddow (@maddow.bsky.social) last night. Never a good sign for Alabama.🙄

"Two weeks after Election Day, Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama assured the public that Trump wouldn’t choose “a criminal” for a governmental position. About a week later..."
Trump’s new team marked by ex-cons, billionaires and failed candidates
There are a surprising number of common denominators tying together Trump’s personnel decisions for his second term — and the curious list keeps growing.
