Genealogy & Mormon History
Not exactly the first person to take the path from "I will be the one to single-handedly guide the Church and nation through the apocalypse and into the Millennium" to "Satan's minions have infiltrated church leadership and actively seek my destruction."

The FP & Q12 dedicated a place in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in 2020 for them to use while the SL Temple is under construction.

Maybe you could use someone's backyard? I've attended both weddings and ring ceremonies in nice backyards. Congratulations, btw!

Also, an interesting tidbit: Rasband confirmed that, even though the Q12 had been working on the Family Proc since fall of 1994, the general RS presidency was unaware of its existence until shortly before Hinckley presented it at the 23 Sep 1995 RS meeting. It had zero official female input. 5/end

-Evanson's talk on the impact of young service missionaries (central focus, not just an aside). My autistic son is finishing up his service mission, so that was a big deal to me. 4/

-Still a lot of Nelson-worship, but much more emphasis on following Christ over following the prophet.
-Lots of peacemaking & patience with ourselves & others. (Not as much guns blazing spiritual warfare.) 3/

Peter Johnson covered his shock & anger on hearing about the priesthood & temple ban on his mission. (Let's normalize talking about being shocked by church history you didn't know about!) John Amos cited Jesus as the secret ingredient (like Tony's creole seasoning!) in the "Good News recipe." 2/

Only three talks that I can think of covered the Family Proclamation or gender complementarianism (Rasband yesterday, Christofferson and Oaks today). Honestly, I thought it was going to be way more prevalent given the 30th anniversary of the Family Proc & current trans panic by leadership.

Awesome lightning tonight, but I still love the vibrant rainbows I saw this morning. (Only got one pic, but there were several.)

The more I think about it, the more irritated I get. These guys sent a message that if people mow down Mormons in senseless violence, we'll give their families a big wad of cash. If we didn't have targets on our backs before, we sure do now.

Those who had no skin in the game shouldn't be raising funds for the shooter. When the Amish forgave their school shooter, it was the families of victims doing the forgiving. Maybe these LDS guys see it as a missionary moment, or maybe it's a knee-jerk reaction to prove that we really are Christian.

This reminds me of the Church's partnerships with the NAACP--performative gestures so church members and leaders don't feel they have to deal with the actual history of racism in the Church.

So retaining a political stranglehold is more important than representing the views of Utahns? Shocked.

The handbook definition of apostasy was broadened a few years ago, so it's much easier for self-appointed gatekeepers to highlight infractions. I've heard of local leaders issuing restraining orders due to harassment by zealous gatekeepers who want specific individuals exed.

Why not just divide up each town in the state into four quadrants and assign each quadrant to a different state representative? That's what the city of Millcreek's been dealing with over the past few years, and the legislature doesn't seem to have any qualms about that.

Okay, actual reason! Scripture Central apparently split with AAF and moved their offices up to Thanksgiving Point in the last year. The offices for Ancient America Foundation remained in Provo near BYU. Those who've talked online about staying with AAF (vs SC) cite location/commuting as a factor.

Wayback Machine confirms that the original 2015 "About" page at Book of Mormon Central points to Ancient America Foundation as its legal entity.

Book of Mormon Central (now Scripture Central) was created by the Ancient America Foundation, per a 2016 BYU Daily Universe article. universe.byu.edu/2016/01/22/o...
Online Book of Mormon study tool aids religion students
A new website aimed to draw people's attention to the Book of Mormon may also be a useful study tool for enhancing scripture teaching and study.

Jasmine Bradley is also awesome, but her view is coming more from a love-who-you-want-to-love LGBTQ+ mentality. It's not heavily founded on historical research, even though she's married to a great researcher.

I think that's because she's echoing arguments from early Mormon feminists, who very much believed in eugenics and racial superiority. That's my concern, she doesn't seem to be fully aware of the historical context.

She's interacting a lot with modern polygamists, though, and highlighting those women's voices, which is helpful in broadening this conversation. I also thought her fallacy examples from the skeptic movement were fascinating. I just want her to proceed with caution with the romanticism.
September 9, 2025 at 11:02 PM
I respect Celene a lot, but I think she has a romanticized view of historical polygamy. She's kind of having a Mormon feminist awakening, but the women that she so admires were attached to wealthy, powerful men, and *that* was what allowed them so much power and freedom.
September 9, 2025 at 10:58 PM
Also, the church desperately wants to portray itself as a mainstream Christian denomination. Allowing lived polygamy would undermine that goal.
