Had a positive experience at the inaugural Journal of Mormon Polygamy conference this weekend. I used a fun research project as a case study to present techniques for historical (& genealogical) research. Also got to geek out with Mormon history & blogging friends, like @gospeltangents.bsky.social

According to Carlos' 1979 obituary, he had a wife, three kids, parents, and siblings still living. Newspapers dot com has several references for him in Elmira newspapers, including when he joined the army reserves in 1957.

My first published Mormon history essay! It's about three sisters who married one of my ancestors, exploring how individual life experiences likely factored into their perspectives on polygamy. I've been researching these ladies (Eliza Clift, Mary Clift, & Sarah E. Clift) for about 10 years.

Check newspapers for the region. They were introducing radar in the area at the time, so lots of articles about speeders. Also looks like the speed limit varied depending on the stretch (35-55 mph, see pic) with a 25 mph limit enforced within city limits.
