Writing might be particularly helpful in increasing self-awareness because it can be practised daily. Rereading our writing can also give us a deeper insight into our thoughts, feelings, behaviour, and beliefs.

Normally, if what the character is saying or doing couldn't be given to one of the main characters. If they can't be combined or removed they need a name.

When do you consider a side character to have earned a name?
Is it when they speak a line of dialogue? Have a certain amount of importance to the story? When it is confusing to describe the scene otherwise?
