The legislation's official name is "One Big Beautiful Bill". It will add trillions to the national debt, give a tax break to the wealthy, and kick millions off Medicaid. The GOP is so proud of it that the House Rules Committee is holding its hearings at 1 a.m. tonight so nobody will observe them.

Hendrick Avercamp was a deaf and mute Dutch painter who lived during the “Little Ice Age” of the late 16th century. He was one of the first landscape painters of the Dutch Golden Age; his figures are full of vigor and humor, and I love them. Happy New Year!

Jimmy Carter has died at 100. He was the first Presidential candidate I was old enough to vote for, the year the US celebrated its bicentennial. RIP, a humanitarian role model for us all.
