Tricks and Treats - AI art #SciArt
I often get asked how I made a particular piece of artwork (here it's @procreate.com ). I am always happy to share, and the answer you *will not* hear is generative AI.
The idea of AI image generation as a magic trick is deceptive...

I usually work on art inspired by science, but this time around the science was inspired by art!
Congratulations to Ahyoung Kim and Qian Chen and colleagues for their work on atom-scale stenciling!

Asking BlueSky for help: For a review, I am trying to accurately credit the first paper that measured pairwise 3D distances between 2 pieces of DNA on the same chromosome (or cosmid). Is Trask 1989 the first?
I know of earlier single-locus papers (1982).

I'm thrilled to share this article by Ruth Schuster covering scanning the fossil record for Denisovans, a project undertaken by the @david-gokhman.bsky.social lab at Weizmann Institute. 2 pieces of my art are featured :)

I’m excited to share that my art is on the cover of Advanced Healthcare Materials this month. Created for the Korin lab @technion.bsky.social
The image shows the use of hydrogels designed for precise embolization of brain aneurysms.

"AI images don’t succinctly or accurately communicate scientific concepts & could undermine public trust in science... inaccuracies wouldn’t fly if they were created by a person, “but for some reason, having this sheen of fake polish that comes with AI kind of erases all of those standards” 🧪#sciart
Illustrators call out journals and news sites for using AI art
Bot-made art undermines research and public trust in science, say illustrators frustrated by inaccurate and outlandish depictions.

Our new paper is out. We point out that large brained (and often smart) mammals and birds have evolved very different distribution of neurons numbers in the brain.
This means that similar cognitive abilities have evolved in very different brains.

The flickers you see are solar flares on a mind-boggling scale, bright enough to shine across 26,000 light-years of space.

For Maths fans, 2025 is a square.
45² = 45 x 45 = 2025
Also,
9² x 5² = 2025
40² + 20² + 5² = 2025
My favourite?
1³+2³+3³+4³+5³+6³+7³+8³+9³ = 2025
