Lol. If only you'd show as much disdain for people like Kero the Wolf as you do for people playing with AI image-gen.

Still I guess folks have to have priorities, right?

I think, in simplest terms, it's a question of psychology. You see a price, your mind thinks advert, so you disengage and scroll on. It's a survival mechanism we've developed in response to the 24/7 bombardment of media trying to sell us stuff.

It's why digital marketing is so tricky.

Oh wait till you see the Animal Hospital intro gif of him doing the rounds. Even the cat looks scared.

That's a really unpleasant side-effect of sobriety. It's called reality.

I feel sorry for all these people caught up in the plagiarism scandal. I mean how were these folks to know the people writing their dissertations for them weren't on the level?
January 5, 2024 at 2:12 PM
I suppose, but nowhere to same degree. I don't want to post images, but if you image-search 'stylophone advert' the top few results have Rolf Harris leering out, looking even creepy and more unpleasant than usuals. Ugggh.
January 5, 2024 at 2:08 PM
No there not. I don't think the Xylophone's reputation has been ruined by association with a prolific celebrity sex offender 😱

OH god I hadn't heard. That's so awful. I used to knock around with his kid sister at college. I hope she's as okay as you can be. It's scary, so many of us of that generation seem to have lost a sibling either during or as a complication of Covid. It fucking sucks.

Oh god yes. I finally got my diagnosis two years ago...at the age of fifty.

That label is the equivalent of a 'kick me' sign on your back.

It's not a fallacy, it's an accusation of arguing in bad faith. Fortunately I studied philosophy before the existence of Wikipedia or r/skeptic.

I'll say it here, I think people vilify Israel when there are ignored atrocities happening right now that are inarguably many magnitudes worse.

So why does the only-Jewish majority nation receive such a level of misrepresentation & attack when many other nations (of all types) do so much worse?
January 4, 2024 at 8:39 PM
Trouble is that immediately silences claims of prejudice. If we followed this rule we'd never be able to question racist policing priorities.

It's a legitimate question to ask if you believe prejudice is causing people to apply uneven standards.

It's also not a fallacy.

So then the Palestinians are fascist too by your logic?
January 4, 2024 at 5:57 PM
Your spreading fascist lies. You misrepresent Zionism as automatically being:

(a) A support for the current Israeli government.
(b) A support for the war in Gazi

There are many Zionists who do not support the current conflict, want a change of government, and want a peacable 2-state solution.
January 4, 2024 at 5:33 PM
That is a lie, and it's also a lie that is considered hate-speech under the ECHR.

So right now you are in the same ballpark as the Trump/MAGA conspiracy theorist - and according to European legal definitions - you're the one spreading fascist propaganda.
January 4, 2024 at 5:29 PM
Not all Zionist support Netanyahu. Not by a long way.

Just because you somehow have constructed a fantasy baddie-Israel in your head that is populated exclusively by emigrated New York bankers doesn't make it true.

I honestly can't work out if your trying to slander the Israelis or big-up Trump.
January 4, 2024 at 5:25 PM
How does that reconcile with Intersectional approaches?
January 4, 2024 at 3:18 PM
I can see where you're coming from, but you again end up with the problem of the person with the power making the rules. There's a lot said about this site, and it's protocol, being 'billionaire-proof', giving individuals tools to moderate what they see, with less central control.
January 4, 2024 at 3:40 AM
It's the same with the blocklists, if you're going to use them you have a moral obligation to show due-diligence making sure they're accurate, and that the people you're putting your trust in are honest and fair.

Only following the blocklists is no defence.
January 4, 2024 at 3:30 AM
Absolutely, and I can't see an alternative at the moment. I do think it's something to always keep in mind though, and to be aware of as a vulnerability in the system.

I mean a key to this all working is for everyone to stay vigilant and not place unwarranted trust in authority figures.
