Good to see that @bruegel.org now corrected the labels in this plot. But not very classy to just delete the original post and ignore a friendly comment pointing out a possible error. That's not how we (should) do things here @bsky.app. People make errors so just acknowledge and correct.

Making the American Passport Less Great

The US, which topped the index in 2014, has dropped out of the top ten for the first time since the Henley Passport ranking began in 2006.

Totally agree and I would hope that European institutions finally take note and leave the cesspit that X has become. @ec.europa.eu

I just sent off my voting ballot for the upcoming general elections in the Netherlands 🇳🇱.

Did you know that while there must be 100 thousands of Dutch citizens abroad, surprisingly few of those are voting. In the 2023 elections, about 70k of us voted from abroad. That’s one (1!) seat in parliament.

And a close up as in the papers… (not so pretty of course when you look at it like that, but the close up feels a bit like changing the axis scale to make a point)

In other news, let me introduce you to the ”cubo nero” that is the talk of the town here in Florence, where obviously strict building regulations are crucial to preserving the city‘s historical heritage

In our paper, we leverage a staggered diff-in-diff model and administrative data on complete migrant populations in Sweden and NL to identify the effect of dual citizenship acceptance on immigrants’ propensity to naturalize.

Check out the paper in @apsrjournal.bsky.social:

Scandal in Portugal where the far-right Chega doesn’t want President Marcelo to go to a Bürgerfest in Berlin because… why should the President go to a hamburger festival? 😀

Great to see @globalcit.bsky.social’s Rainer Bauböck at the launch of the @internationalidea.bsky.social Global State of Democracy Report 2025. Emphasising the important implications of out-of-country voting in times of democratic recession both in migrant origin countries and destination countries.
