Originally from Cumbria now living in Devon. Interested in ferns and orchids, bird watcher (useless at identification!) also ham radio (call sign M0WIV) and the SOTA & POTA schemes.
After my failed attempt to find some Polypodium cambricum, today I followed a lead I had come across for Tunbridge filmy fern (Hymenophyllum tunbrigense) at Shaugh Bridge in the SW corner of Dartmoor. I had a 6 figure grid to follow which led me down into a mossy boulder field above the River Plym.

I went back to the mystery fern in Yealmpton today to see if there were any paraphyses but couldn't see anything. I (reluctantly) removed a single pinna and "phonescoped" it through the handlens at home. I'll look again next month when the sporangia are more mature. @sylvatica2024.bsky.social
