4. I once caught a shiny Poochyena, and my friend’s brother convinced me the strange color was a game breaking bug and I needed to start over with a new file. I was vaguely aware of shinies from the red Gyarados in Crystal, so I have no good excuse for buying into this one.

3. I spent a few years thinking Torchic was missing a foot, thanks to its sprite in Ruby.

2. I didn’t realize at the time that Mudkip was supposed to be a mudskipper, or even an amphibian. I thought it was some kind of weird blue dog or other furry critter. I don’t know how to explain that one.

1. I didn’t know about egg groups, so I kept sticking my Blaziken and Altaria in daycare thinking I’d get eggs. Because they’re both birds. Didn’t matter that DC Man kept telling me they’d rather play with other Pokemon; I was convinced there was just some magical condition I had to meet.
