Life long Dem. Lover of dogs, cats and nature. No obedience in advance. No DM's.
One of my favorite movies is "Now Voyager". I acquired a copy of the book that was the source of the film. I am amazed at how much of the dialogue in the book got included in the film, word for word.

I never had a cat that would watch tv or videos until Kiwi. Tonight I watched Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and Kiwi watched every second of it. She was also entranced by Hamilton. Goofy girl.

I worked this week M - Th for my old boss at my old job. I think Kiwi missed me as she has been in my lap about 5 times today.

I hope everyone had a lovely Caturday. Here is Kiwi, striking a pose:

Monday will mark 5 weeks with Kiwi. From only being able to be touched with a back scratcher, she is currently on my lap purring. She loves toys, especially the magic red dot. She acts like a dog when I am fixing food and managed to turn the dishwasher on. She loves boxes and bags. And, /1

Update on Kiwi: On Tuesday she started walking around where I could see her and talk to her. Later, she started giving me leg rubs, but I was not allowed to pet. Before I went to bed, we had progressed to pets and she got in my lap by allowing me to pick her up. She is on my lap now, /1

Yesterday, I adopted a tortie from Animal Care and Control. Her name is Kiwi. She was taken in from a home with 12 cats and the owner had dementia and could not care for them. When I met her, I put the back of my hand up to her cage. She responded with a hiss and claws. The only way she /1

Allow me to whine a bit. This has not been a good summer, I lost my dog in June, my cat in July. I am on SS and my grocery bill and utility bill keeps climbing. My 70th birthday got a lunch - no gifts, nothing but that. Sigh.

I survived the week filling in at my old job. Atty out of the country - just me. I am so very glad it's over as it was amazing how quickly my employment stress returned - not a good week for restful sleep. Now, my time is mine again.

Now I know why I retired. I am spending the week covering at my old job while the atty is out of town. My stress is right back where it was before I retired. Yes, the money for the week will be nice, but the stress - NO!

I think I witnessed a lightening strike today. I was outside my office building while it rained. Saw a flash, heard thunder. A few minutes later an outside light fixture started smoking, then flashed light, and kept smoking. Scary!

I have not needed to use hot water in my house at all today. Yet, the "cold" water from the tap is extremely warm. Welcome to summer in NE FL living in an off grade 1944 house.

Dear Corporate America: I will not use your self checkout stations under any circumstances. You don't give me a discount and you don't give me a W2 or 1099 at the end of the year. Why should I do your job for you so that you can collect billions in profit????

Here it is 9:00 at night and it's over 90 degrees in NE FL. When will this stop???

My goofy cat has decided that sleeping outside in the heat in better than being inside. She comes in for breakfast in the morning and then goes back out to a shaded corner of the backyard and stays there. Weird.

Today marks 70 trips around the sun for me. What's next?

Surfing the tv for something to watch came upon a show call "Vicious" with Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi. Hysterically, bitingly funny. Yes, it's a British show.

Today is July 12th. Why am I still hearing fireworks????

After being gone for almost a week, my cat, Kate, reappeared tonight!!! Yay!

And the hits keep on coming. I lost Bell on June 3rd and now yesterday, I have lost my cat, Kate, who was born under my house 11 years ago. For the first time in as along as I can remember, there is not another living thing in my house. The stillness is unbearable.

I thought about buying myself some ice cream yesterday. Until I discovered that a pint cost $6.29. But, hey, those prices are coming down, right?????

The Spam callers wanting to know my Medicare info today are off the chain. All with heavy accents. They hang up on me right quick. And, yes, I answer just to have fun.

It has been almost a month since Bell went over the Bridge. Yet, I still hear her barking for me to come help her up the deck steps, I still listen for her asking for help off the bed. I think my cat, Kate, has been grieving for her as well. She hides a lot or spends time near the back door.
June 28, 2025 at 10:35 PM
This time yesterday, I was helping Bell get up on the bed. She would "yell" at me until I went to bed so we could snuggle. Today, she is gone and I have to sleep without her for the first time in 12 years.
