Thought I’d share some pics from this past summer to add a little brightness to this dreary, cloudy day. New Jersey, US, Zone 7b.

By rights it should have been Brie, instead of American cheese, and it should have been grilled, not toasted, but I was hungry and lazy. I give you, cheese, figs, and basil on oat bread. These are the first figs from the tree I planted last year. The basil is homegrown, too. :-)

Lulu is acknowledging #Caturday by walking around the house meowing loudly. It’s the 20-year-old cat equivalent of a 94-year-old man yelling for you to get off the lawn.

The wind was too intense and knocked over some of my daffodils, so I brought them inside along with some bleeding hearts.

I start my warm weather veggies outside in jugs, too. I did 15 more jugs last week. Tomatoes, cucs, peppers, squash, etc. Added to the previous jugs there are 47 total. About 10 have sprouted.

Never realized Life cereal was made in Canada until today. I guess cereal will become even more expensive now.

Lulu will be 20 years old on Sunday. Here she is trying on her party outfit in preparation for the bash we are having to celebrate her milestone!

Had to weight mine down due to strong winds last week! This is the first batch. Will sow the warm weather crops in a few weeks.

Freezing rain last night. Yucky (but pretty) out there.

So pretty. Here’s some Blueberry sedum flowering

Lulu has been having a rough go. She’s 3 months shy of turning 20 and had been doing well, but for the past few days has been having a gastrointestinal flare which is making her weak. She stumbles a bit when she getting up and is not eating much. But we’ve been here before, and she has rallied. 🙏

Happy New Year, everyone! We kicked off 2025 with a party, an eclectic blend of neighbors, friends from various walks of life, and relatives. My husband made black-eyed peas and collard greens along with his world famous Gumbo Parmesan!

The @bsky.app on iPad is annoying. It’s designed for a phone screen, which is fine, but every few minutes it ENLARGES ITSELF to fill the screen horizontally, and as it’s designed for portrait, not landscape, you can only see a little bit of content. Must close/reopen to fix each time. Screenshots.

This is my niece’s cat Sheldon. He’s enormous, and very gentle. #cats

Picked up this plant at Home Depot last spring. It was teensy. I put her outside for the summer and she grew to 3 times her original size. Brought her back in and trimmed by half, cutting off a lemon that critters chewed. But look at her now! Lemons are turning!

Thanks for the reminder. I’d better get the rest of it in, too.

Weird. This is what I’ve got. And I double-checked to see if I have the latest version. Clearly you are a special individual!

Of all the technology in #startrek, like warp drive, spore drive, transporters, holodecks, etc. I think the thing I’d most like to have is a replicator. That gadget would be darned handy.

This handsome creature was in the mood for hide-and-seek this afternoon. I believe it is a White-banded fishing spider (Dolomedes albineus) enjoying a nap in a pile of stones. NJ 7b #gardeningfeed #arachnids

Anyone else here do winter sowing? I’ve been doing it for 4 years here in central New Jersey, USA (zone 7b) and find it simple and effective for almost all types of plants. #gardeningfeed

It was a tough day for poor Lulu. She is 19 1/2 years old and was crying miserably all morning, continually squatting to pee, but unable to produce much. Our amazing vet squeezed in a house call right away, and Lulu was given meds, fluids, and blood was taken. She weighed in at just 4.5 lbs.

We have had 54 days with no measurable rain here in the Trenton, NJ area. But last night… Hallelujah! Plants are rejoicing, the Delaware River is standing a tiny bit taller, and gardeners are exhaling. We may even get a little more in the next day or two. So grateful! #gardening

I’ve been gardening since 2020 and this has happened every year. I put it in Oct, it sprouts, and then it hangs out during the winter and takes off in spring. Harvest in July. It does not appear to hurt the garlic at all. This is a hard-neck variety called Music. Here’s a pic of this year’s crop.

3 inches deep, with 3 inches of leaves above, topped with burlap, and a grate to keep the critters from digging it up, my garlic, planted Oct 28, still reaches for the sun. #gardening
