The text of the poem is as follows: The New Knights by Lynne Sargent Chivalry didn’t die, it just needed a little more hopepunk: Gawain crafts fake-ids for immigrants, implants bio-hacked RFIDs to help them through the scanners. Morgana white-hat hacks for the climate resistance making sure there is still a dream of paradise before Avalon. Merlin is playing butler to the billionaires biding xyr time until xe flips the switch make the mansions go dark and the money disappear. Gwen and Lance are still there too, they’ve figured out their ethical sluttery and lead a polya farming commune, because what’s a romance without a lot love? Galahad has gone to craft a new grail, and I promise you he knows it isn’t on Mars. he knows it’s in same place chivalry lives, where it has always lived in the hearts of those who care for others, who know that code, love, and craft, that service, labour, and art all can be swords against the darkness.   "The New Knights" originally published in The Sprawl Mag October 2022.

An excerpt from Lynne's story "For All Love is Prayer," The monks murmur, “Ringrender” bowing as I walk towards the altar. I can see their eyes wander to the cut of my muscles and the sharp edge of my heavy blade. My heartbeat quickens and I want to run but I keep my pace steady as I approach. As I kneel to pray, I cannot help but let my tears cut runnels through the gold face paint they have anointed me with, and there I whisper, so quiet that only our god can hear. “I do not know how a god’s memory works, if you remember falling in love with Zel the way the stories tell, but I remember the day that I fell in love with Senaton. I was fourteen, and it was the last time I was simply Arhis, not yet Ringrender, not your Shining Blade. Then, Senaton was the bronze and noble one shining up in the stands. I swear I won that first match in the arena because the fluttering in my heart when I saw him up there, watching me, lifted my very body, making me light and swift as never before. I shouldn’t have been fighting to impress him. I should have been fighting for my life, for even then I knew the arena so often meant death. Now, fighting for life seems the only just reason to fight. But I was young, and had just seen my first, my only love. I’m sure you think I was a silly boy, believing in love at first sight, believing that I, an orphan gutter rat could dare to love a noble. Exciting news! I've been given the go-ahead to announce my FORTHCOMING BOOK. And... it's non-fiction! I'm nearly done a first draft of NOT JUST PLAYING MAKE-BELIEVE and I am so overjoyed to have sold it to @ecwpress.bsky.social. I can't wait for you all to read it in 2027.

Today saw me realizing that I,Robot (the film) came out 9 years before I studied it in university. I had totally forgotten my copy had the tie-in cover.

And I'm like "Oh! One of my favourite childhood books was HEIR APPARENT (pic)." And he says "hare" one more time. And I'm like "ya know, it's pronounced more like "air". And he's like no, it's a HARE. And we have a good laugh at the pun and my misunderstand ing.

So @birchmd.bsky.social was telling me all about playing a janky magic deck feat. "hare apparent" (pictured). Now, I mostly play limited mtg and very quickly delete knowledge of cards from my brain to make room for the next set. All night, he's been talking about this "hare apparent". 🧵
