Okay, I’m really ready for spring, Ottawa!

Can you show this to Tom, @joehasanidea.bsky.social?

Last year I sprained my finger and woke up the next day to a purple mess & having to get my rings cut off. I asked them if they could use leeches so I could keep my rings uncut but no dice. I wish we’d been in Ottawa, I just found out about leech therapy here on the This Is Ottawa podcast.

well, @oc-transpo.bsky.social, thanks for nothing today. After waiting for over 1/2 an hour on Crichton for the #9 Rideau, we were told by A TRANSIT SUPERVISOR that busses were running down McKay. We moved over to get this:

Boxes & paper are gradually being picked up from Kajiji post, new chesterfield arrived today, walked to our polling station to vote in the provincial election (so easy!!), kitchen is getting better organized, delicious dinner out at our local Indian restaurant, Dhruvees, & grocery shop. Good day!

Still chaotic but more progress being made! Empty boxes from the bedroom ready to be broken down. Gin & tonics are a lovely reward for today’s hard work!

Our townhouse is on the market!!

Moving is chaos. Add in constant nosebleeds from the dry air (me) & an angry back (Joe) and this is going to take a while. But progress is being made!

It was too cold to go out yesterday at “Feels like” -21 but a new more desperate to escape cabin fever & needing a few items meant we went out in colder (but less gusty) weather. Trust us to move back to Ottawa in time for the most snow in 20 years to thoroughly disrupt the delivery of everything.

First morning in Ottawa, there’s no chance of shorts on the deck with my coffee here for quite some time. Camping out until our stuff gets here, enjoying a little love in the form of a cup from a Houston friend.

Still hasn’t kicked in that this isn’t a vacation from Houston but a permanent move.

Heading back home to Canada after 19 years in the US.

Seriously?? This is why people are reluctant to have workmen use their bathroom. I would never say no to that but this is really off putting.

They left us this year but we absolutely adored these two, Scrappy the “tabby maniac” and Smoke, the “fuffernutter”.

So very dignified.
March 30, 2024 at 4:32 AM
Today is our last full day with our sweet 19¾ year old kitty, Smoke. He’s told us that he’s ready. We aren’t but the vet comes tomorrow morning so he can cross the rainbow bridge to frolic with Spot & Scrappy again. For the first time in 7136 days (19 yrs, 6 mos & 15 days) we will be without a cat.
March 27, 2024 at 6:03 AM
Yeah, our 19 year old void has needed subcutaneous fluids every other day since July 2022.
February 10, 2024 at 4:01 PM
🤣 “…made of yell.”!! That’s a perfect description for Smoke these days!
January 29, 2024 at 2:44 PM
Smoke got a heated pad a couple of months ago, also now his favourite spot to melt.
January 28, 2024 at 1:58 AM
Smoke is 19½, our sweet (old, deaf, demented) wee boy.
January 27, 2024 at 11:58 PM
His littermate, Spot, died of cancer just before Christmas 5 years ago. We had no idea how devastated we’d be once it sunk in. He left a HUGE hole, as Scrappy has.
January 7, 2024 at 5:35 PM
I’ve always thought that too. That the void is so disproportionate to their size. Our last remaining cat is 19, deaf, has some dementia, kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, requires pills & fluids, still uses the litterbox except for pooping wherever he feels the urge. But when he goes, it’ll break us.
January 7, 2024 at 5:30 PM
I’m still aching with the loss of this sweet cuddle bug. Scrappy was a one of a kind puppy cat who loved people and the house/bed/my shoulder is so empty without her.
January 2, 2024 at 4:29 PM
We lost our crazy, silly, goofy, puppy-cat Scrappy today at age 16. I still can’t believe it, she was a left shoulder living, cuddle bug of a purr therapist and had an irrepressible joie de vivre until these last few days. I’m numb.
