I work with kids, and I've seen the kids who got whole-word reading (or whatever it's called) instead of phonetics. It's so frustrating to watch them guess words rather than actually sound it out. Makes me sick. 😡

Reminds me of the guidance in Unknown Armies: it's cool to play Avatars and Adepts, but they're also fanatically obsessed with their magic, and it's always helpful to have at least one person on the team who can hold a steady job and maintain normal relationships.

The original show is famous for having non-benders keep up with, if not supersede, benders in combat. Ty Lee and Mai, the Kyoshi Warriors, the tracker lady with the badgermole... Sokka to a lesser extent. Benders rely on their bending, so non-benders get to specialize in other forms of combat.

...My brothers and I used to spend hours in Free Run mode, playing hide-and-seek and tag. We even had a parkour game to try and climb up buildings using only Kirby's jumps and 5 floats. I'll be really disappointed if that's the case. 😞
