Your periodic reminder that, 150 years ago, a desire to read fiction was considered both a sign of mental illness in women and a symptom of it.

The groups devoted to banning some books because they're "immoral", "obscene", etc. are just growths from the same bad root.

Around half of American adults read at or below a sixth grade level. Only 37% read a novel or short story last year.

That's bad. For multiple reasons.
