To continue my post about random life updates and sharing images (with extra descriptions in alt text area) see previous post to see more about my steps to reduce social media time.
I saw an amazing AMAZING feverdream of a performance during the International Puppet theater festival here in Chicago. This was the incredible set for Maraña: Organismo - the set is all crochet, and it feels like an otherworldly mass of swirls and circles and fringe, much of it black light reactive. During the performance, there was a DJ that played very sci-fi otherworldly sounding music with elements that made it seem like it was under water or in space. There were many protrusions that poked out of the holes and waggled around, and after a while there were also fingers and toes and legs and arms and bodies. it was very acrobatic, musculature, primal, and the kind of vibe I needed to see right now. There was another wild feverdream of a show I saw, but Indidnt get pictures..it involved monsters and taboos and raunchy silliness. Agh! It was one of the performance is "Nasty, Brutish, and Short" - 2 guys from Puerto Rico, their group called Poncili Creacion While on a break at work, I popped over to the art institute and saw that they have a LEE BONTECOU work! OMG I almost cried. I have never seen one of these in person and I am a huge fan! I stared at it for a while and took a moment to BREATHE. With my interest in making 3D structures right now, this is exactly what I needed to see. Image alt desc.: a 3/4ths side view of a huge square sculpture with planks radiating out from an empty hole. The structure is made with steel lines, with canvas (various shades of brown) sewn taught on each plane with wires I drank some hot cocoa the other day while feeling very silly. The marahmellows I plopped in the cup stuck to the sides and looked rather aggressive, like the teeth of a skeleton. In my attempt to run and get my phone before the marahmellows melted, I dropped marshmellows along my floor and this also had me giggling. Its the small things.

Whoa. Taking steps to majorly reduce my social media intake. Last week I doomscrolled so much I got physically ill and had a 3 day headache. I disabled fb on my phone. Been reading and focusing on art. Also theatre, friends, walking, etc. Time to focus! Here are some photo updates. Desc. in alt txt
Here are 2 books by Nnedi Okorafor. Ive been keeping a physical book near me to read during idle moments when I have the urge to look online. I already got through "Who Fears Death", and I will be starting on the newest "Death of the Author". I picked these up when I attended an author talk in Evanston. It was a delight to see and hear my favorite author talk in person! Image: a panoramic view of lake michigan, white snowy ice has formed on the rocks, the clouds are whispy. Desc: After 3 days of a geadache and starting to feel more sick, I took a much needed walk which instantly made me feel better. The experience of walking to and viewing Lake Michigan is always a pleasant. I also had proper tea with a friend that day, which left me feeling healed, revived, and excited to keep working on art. (Thank you Lewis) Image: A puppet full size body puppet: an orane canine (fox or wolf?) with a bright blue third eye Desc: I went to the cultural center where there is an exhibition on view celebrating puppet theatre. I was excited to see some puppets from a production I saw during Halloween (put on by the Rough House Theatre) A view of the inside of the Cultural center lobby. It looks like an impossible maze of structure with stairs and balcony every inch covered in mosaics! 💜

At least the alt text can also be a way for me to continue to ramble about my images. Not only for low vision sake but also further context for all users! This ramble is supported by my overall ramble and lament that I have a very short character limit on bluesky regular posts. Slightly snarky I know, but I like words. The most recent pic for the cylindrical sculpture made of strips of cardboard. this shows the top and bottom half seperated, so it will be easier to have access to the inside of the sculpture, because there are holes that I intend to add magic to. The blue coating is glued on tissue paper, to unify the texture and make it stronger, and easier to paint. A work in progress of the cylindrical sculpture made of steips of cardboard. I suppose I better start getting some more use here at Bluesky - But listen, I like interaction, and I like to make long winded posts..If this is gonna be our alternative MAYBE @bsky.app can PLEASE give much longer character options in posts 😭 - I am POETIC, A writer! An Imaginer! ... I do not want my posts to be truncated, castrated, and malformed just to fit into the character limit!! I am already past my limit by 126 characters. This is an experiment to test what happens with the extra threads created when a post goes beyond? I HATE limiting my speech to such short quips. I want CONVERSATION. i want to express my yearnings, my lamentations, my ambiguous feelings of not-quite-alignment with the universe, and how it helps to explain that I can hear the rain dribbling into the crevices of my little gray cells. A short character limit is an anathama to my creative spirit.  GRANTED... WE do have the alt text area for images, which is great for low vision and blind users but can also be used to give more context for all users, so I could use that to continue my rambles. This may be a satisfactory solution. Anyway, if you were able to make it this far (not sure what this EXTRA LONG ramble will look like on bluesky... please guess what my newest sculpture will be expressing! Serious and False answers are allowed.  Remember, this is a test.

New sketchbook!
Doing the first page of a new sketchbook is like a spiritual experience and ritual. I must give my intro pages a fantastic piece for myself. This time I went with some abstract paint play and some good words to start with. And I painted the cover purple.

'Les Fleurs du Mal' - Oil and gold leaf on paper - 2014

My homage to the French poet Charles Baudelaire.
The Flowers of Evil is a dreamlike and symbolist work paying homage to Charles Baudelaire. It incorporates references to major themes from Les Fleurs du Mal. On the left, a dark wreck emerges from turbulent waves, evoking Man and the Sea or The Voyage, symbolizing wandering and the quest for the infinite. Above, a colossal feminine figure, framed by shadows and branches, recalls The Giantess, embodying a sublime and unsettling beauty. At the center, three women stand as allegorical figures or enigmatic muses, intertwined with gold and shadow, representing ideals, temptation, and melancholy. Their posture suggests a mystical dance or ritual, surrounded by feathers and flowing veils. The orientalist architecture in the background, with domes and golden mosaics, echoes Baudelaire’s fascination with exoticism and distant landscapes, as seen in poems like Exotic Perfume. Greetings Night Owls. Im over here getting ready for DOTD. I have a lot of 2D stuff to process. Now making labels and putting a few things in frames. So many experiments while I've been in a very in-between stage in my life. I've come to realize, this is ok. I'm meant to follow my whim!

A 6th piece, also smaller, an ink drawing of a nude female meditating, her head becoming squiggles. small 4"x6" surreal dark art on paper. The background is collaged ripped paper with text. The upper torso of a woman figure wearing what appears to be a fur jacket or top of a fur dress, open in the front. Her hair has been replaced with what appears to be tree branches.

I was working on potion bottles for the convention next week (DOTD) But I had no desire to keep working on them. I cleared my desk and started painting. Things are messier. More abstract. But I needed to release this one. I think its done, but I'll give it a day.

I acquired a bug yesterday! Anoplophora zonatrix. And Art from the Chicago Mosaic School! And hung out at the Brodgeport Art Center. And spent time around artists and art and an art buddy. Feelin inspired.

Avoiding the pit of stomach things-are-very-wrong-in-a-big-way-I-have-no-say-in feeling tonight. I splurged on Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, and I don't have to work tomorrow. And since I had a good modeling gig today, I also don't feel obligated to work on art. 🤘(though, this game is totally art!)
