Pump up the Volume still rips. But given our current state and podcasting, I fear the impact it had.
Ones of I've seen:

Mallrats: Seen so many times and love so I won't be rewatching

So I Married an Axe Murderer: Banger

Good Will Hunting: Banger and recently rewatched

Judgement Night: Been a long time. We'll see if I give it a go

Pump Up the Volume: Watched a couple of times and rewatching now

Starting with the ones I somehow have not seen.

Singles: Solid. Music and cameos better than the movie (which is also my review of Happy Gilmore 2, except it's less than solid)

Grosse Pointe Blank: Banger. Why did I wait so long?
So, I know what I'm going to be spending a ton of time doing in August.

I recently attended the awesome @aidotengineer.bsky.social Summit in NYC. I asked OpenAI's DeepResearch to create a guide leveraging the videos of the conference and my notes. I had it target certain personas (in the doc) and provide best practices, specs, etc ...

I'm so glad I quit paying attention to the Bulls. As long as Jerry owns the team, I'm not going back.
FROM SHAMS:

Full trade:

Spurs: De'Aaron Fox, Jordan McLaughlin

Kings: Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first round picks (2025 CHA, 2027 SAS, 2031 MIN), three second round picks (2025 CHI, 2028 DEN, 2028 own back)

Bulls: Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, their own 2025 pick via SAS
FROM SHAMS:

BREAKING: Sacramento is finalizing a trade to send De'Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs in a multi-team trade that moves Chicago Bulls' Zach LaVine to the Kings, sources tell ESPN.

If you are wondering why it’s harder to get an interview when applying directly:

Consider that the number of applications per role are up, by a LOT. For dev roles, a lot. And increasingly more are AI-generated, and noise from the POV of the hiring manager.

Many such startups:

A test of how seriously your firm is taking AI: when o-1 (& the new Gemini model) came out this week, were there assigned folks who immediately ran the model through your internal, validated, firm-specific benchmarks to see how useful it as? Did you update any plans or goals as a result?

So here's what's cool about my job:

Yesterday morning I said, "We really ought to have TWIN PEAKS available." So then a bunch of people scrambled, worked really hard, and now you can watch every episode of David Lynch & Mark Frost's original series for free on Pluto TV: pluto.tv/us/on-demand...

Useful thing for AI critics to do would is to "red team" their own beliefs by spending some time to see if they can get AI to do the things they say it can't

This isn't intended to be snarky, there are lots of things AI does terribly. But we need more critics to actually engage with these systems

Ok, second time in two days I've shared with folks, so probably need to broadcast more broadly:

If you are using Cursor's Composer feature, switch to "agent" mode. It's a straight-up upgrade over "normal", better in every way.

Click "agent" and the prompt will change to "Ask agent to do anything"

There should never be any neutral-site college football games except for the annual national championship in the Rose Bowl
my feeling watching the pregame scenes this weekend is that nothing before the semifinals should ever be at a bowl site again, and probably it should just be the national championship game. bowls, we appreciate your service and your watch has ended

One of those "you had to be there" albums that still absolutely rips and sounds unlike anything else.

This and STANKONIA came out a month apart. Two life-changing Best Buy purchases.

This is probably my biggest capital S Story I have in the 1000+ shows I have seen. I honestly can't believe this shit happened. So I was hanging out with my friend in 1999. I used to drive out to her house and we would cuddle and watch movies or go to the movies.

This is really good. And pretty spot on.
One of the most important debates in tech right now is the group of folks who think AI is fake and sucks vs. the people who think AI is real and dangerous. I wrote about why I'm in the latter camp, and talked about my differences with Gary Marcus www.platformer.news/ai-skeptics-...

Did you know that 99% of email today is spam? Your inbox isn’t 99% spam because AI is used to filter it.

The same 99% will happen here too, but if AI researchers continue to get perma-banned for making available the datasets needed to filter it, it’s going to make this platform unusable.
