the morning after (just gonna share this here before the anxiety takes over)
Text screenshot. Text: Rose was still asleep by his side, cocooned in the blankets, while the morning light seeping through the curtains lined with gold her curls scattered over the pillow. Ryan brushed a strand of hair that rolled over her forehead, delicately as to not wake her up. It was hard when all he wanted was to hold her closer, let his hands fully sink into her hair and bury his face in the nook of her neck. But for now he was content to observe her chest raise with every breath, the way her lips parted as if in a whisper. He felt at peace in a way he hadn’t in a long time. Full in a way that wasn’t completely unfamiliar, and yet new in its own way. He had yet to dare to name that feeling, despite allowing himself to surrender to it. I love her. When he realised, despite the smokescreen of excuses he told himself, Ryan knew very well. For how long though, he wasn’t sure. You already have my heart. You have for a while now, she said. How much time did he spend battling that feeling without even noticing? How deep inside his own walls did he hide for him to not understand the nature of her feelings until recently? How much time did he waste, acting like a coward? He lightly touched Rose’s cheek with his knuckles. He couldn’t resist the pull, after all. I love you. Text screenshot. Text: When her eyes fluttered open, their gazes met briefly before a smile lit up Rose’s face. She shuffled closer, letting Ryan pull her into an embrace as she snuggled against his chest. They were both quiet while Ryan ran his fingers through her hair in soothing motions. “Good morning.” Rose made some space for her hand to reach Ryan’s cheeks. She kissed him softly on the lips, lingering to kiss him three more times. “Have you been awake for long?” “No, not too long.” He kissed her again. “You’re awake earlier than I expected.” Rose smiled. “What can I say? I was particularly excited to wake up next to you this morning.” Ryan couldn’t help but return the smile. He pushed her on the back as he shifted on top of her. “How are you feeling?” Rose started tracing the line of his shoulder blades. “I feel happy.” She followed the path of his spine up and down, then up again to the nape of his head, teasing his short hair. “How do you feel?” “Do you want a normal answer or a sappy one?” Rose chuckled. “Of course I must request the sappy one.” “I feel in love,” Ryan whispered as he peppered her neck with kisses, “and happy, too.” When he looked at her, Rose was smiling. The soft, warm smile that always made his heart skip a beat.
