The Bill of Rights (containing the first ten Constitutional Amendments) was ratified on December 15, 1791. The protections enumerated in the Bill of Rights belong to all of us, regardless of race, creed, or national origin.

Text of Amendment 4: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. Text of Amendment 6: In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

The 2026 Redistricting Amendment would amend the Illinois Constitution to result in fairer Illinois Legislative District maps following the decennial census in 2030.This amendment would have no impact on US Congressional districts.

Gerrymandering has an ugly history of excluding and silencing minority voices. The 2026 Redistricting Amendment will bring fair maps to the Illinois General Assembly. It is unrelated to the ongoing U.S. Congressional redistricting battles.
