My feed is swamped with aurora photos and I have to be a grown up person and accept that the only thing we get to see here right now are clouds 😭

Worst thing about November in Oslo is not that the world looks like this but that half the city is out there going for a run at 7.30am pretending this is acceptable running weather (yes I’m just jealous of their self discipline)

Much fewer people have moved from Germany to the US this year compared to the past years (Fortzüge is those who migrated GER—>US, Zuzüge is US—>GER). Last time we saw such a decrease (besides Covid) was 2017 👀

We’re hiring PhD students at the econ department @uio.no

✨ Dynamic department with a lot of exciting research
✨ Access to arguably the best admin data in the world (but we are also theory-friendly)
✨ PhD positions are fully funded (and well paid!)

Service info: if you sprain your ankle and you happen to have an over equipped kitchen, these wine cooler sleeves are perfect splints

Norwegian elections are coming up and they have put temporary polling stations for early voting in public places. There is one on campus that I can see from my office window and it’s kind of cool to see people constantly waiting in line for voting. Feels like a very live view of democracy.

Apparently this confused enough people to have the German Wikipedia page stating that it’s biennial (didn’t even know zweijährlich is a word??), English one is annually

I have a great tip for all of you: if you buy flowers for a colleague but forget they’re not in the office you can keep the flowers yourself!

Also: carnations are heavily underrated, why did I use to think of them as old people flowers??

In case you’re wondering what August Sundays look like in Oslo 🫐

Very cool website showing how far you can get by train from a given city in a given amount of time. I kind of knew but definite didn’t appreciate enough how well connected German cities are before moving far north 👀

Of course German has two words for these two meanings of research (Forschung for science, Recherche for other research)

Wanted to check how it’s in Norwegian and accidentally created a tongue twister

Ich bin ja einiges gewohnt aber manchmal fehlen mir dann doch etwas die Worte 🤡

More evidence that LinkedIn is not for me: this graphic was shared in a post and comments reveal that LinkedIn users find this inspiring, helpful, and eye opening. I just get angry seeing this (AI?) nonsense suggesting women should put more income in a joint account and invest in less risky assets 🤡

My personal summer trend is cold brewed tea. Why did no one ever tell me that you can prepare tea with cold water???

I just know LinkedIn is not my platform because while every comment under a post with this pie chart is „wow so true“ my only thought is „the data visualization slice should be much smaller here“

Woke up today with a ridiculously swollen eye that had me look like this. Doctor‘s best guess was something stung me right above the eye. Luckily, it improved quickly and I went on spending the day on an island in the fjord. Went swimming and immediately was stung by a jellyfish.

So I bought a potato press to be able to make Spaghettieis 🍝🍨

You can take the girl out of Germany but you can’t take Germany out of the girl I guess.

„Aber ist es wirklich heißer als sonst um diese Zeit?“ 🤡

Der Aufmacher hat irgendwie starke „ich stelle hier nur Fragen“ vibes.

Im Artikel zeigt dann gleich die erste Grafik dass die Antwort sehr eindeutig JA ist
