🧵The relationship between Lutheranism and economic justice needs more focus: "Christians are to be taught that he who sees a man in need, and passes him by, and gives [his money] for pardons, purchases not the indulgences of the pope, but the indignation of God" (45th - 95 Theses)

🧵When we think of the 5th commandment "Thou Shalt Not Kill," Luther reminds us that it is not merely the act in and of itself which is forbidden; but also, that we must act such "that the heart be not ill disposed toward anyone," in a manner which could potentially lead to violence. #Lutheran #elca

Some of the people who migrate here from Twitter remind me of the pilgrims or whichever group that left England where they were forced to follow a specific set of narrow rules and hoped America would be a place where everyone would have to follow the pilgrims' specific set of narrow rules instead
This person only got more unhinged from here.

Blockity block block.

🧵Luther (Large Catechism, The Ten Commandments.) explains that no happiness can be lasting or meaningful in the worship of money and material success, and that within generations it will not last. It is important to ground ourselves, not in materialism but in a higher ideal. #Lutheran
