I can’t believe that on the eve of the 3rd anniversary of russia’s fullscale invasion I have to say this: Ukraine didn’t start this war. Every day Ukrainians are fighting and dying for democracy, but they don’t want to hold elections in the middle of the war. 1/

“Peace through strength.” A great idea. What we saw today is lack of strength leading to lack of peace. What we heard today is appeasement. A starting point of giving Putin what he wants - accepting occupation & denying Ukraine a path to NATO, is weakness undermining the US, our allies, and Ukraine.

“Impact” of IO is notoriously hard to measure. The Breakout Scale, from @benimmo.bsky.social, continues to be one of the best tools for doing so. This one is a great example of a “Category 5” op, if the attribution to Overload/Matryoshka is indeed correct.

Having been the focus of false allegations used to motivate some of this "censorship" narrative, I'll say this: My colleagues & I will continue to use our free speech to study and report on how social media platforms facilitate the spread of falsehoods & are manipulated for political/financial gain.
Meaningless and (unsurprisingly) cynical. Federal employees are already prohibited from violating the First Amendment. Trump wants the free speech points while preserving his administration's ability to jawbone media, platforms, etc. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

A Ukrainian couple burned alive in their car due to a Russian missile strike on Kyiv.

Oleksiy and Svitlana Davydovych were from Khmilnyk, Vinnytsia Oblast, and regularly traveled to Kyiv to sell dairy products and meat.

Their two children lost both parents in the 18 January Russian strike.

The future (imo) will be filled with a constant ache and continual search for — with increasingly diminished capacity for discovery / identification of — authenticity.
I am fascinated by the people at Meta who think this is a *good* idea in exactly the same way I'm fascinated by conspiracy theorists.

It just seems so patently awful to me. And in ways that every sensible person I know would immediately grasp.

Everybody needs to watch 23 lectures of Timothy Snyder’s class on YouTube on “The Making of Modern Ukraine” & minbar read Serhii Plokhy’s “The Gates of Europe,” “Russo-Ukrainian War,” and “Lost Kingdom.” That’s all I gotta say about the first 23 mins of “the interview.” The truth will set you free.

Putin’s govt tries to justify its war on Ukraine by falsely portraying Kyiv and its supporters as Nazis and antisemites. But the Kremlin, its security services, and its state & proxy media have a long history of using antisemitic disinfo to sow discord. New from GEC: www.state.gov/more-than-a-...
