We’ll miss you, Speaker Pelosi! Thank you for all you did for the climate. (Photo from 2007)

The Zavala Elementary PTA is working to raise $7500 this year to support our sweet little east Austin school. We need new chairs for the library, we want to restore some of the field trips which were cut this year in a budget-saving measure, and more. Can you pitch in? Thank you!

I’ve been in Denver all week helping train new staff for Environment America, PIRG and The Public Interest Network. These talented folks will spread out across the country tomorrow to work for the environment, consumers, democracy and more!

The climate revolving fund is eliminated entirely in Mayor Watson’s tax increase proposal. :( #atxcouncil

We joined with 55 Rice University students today to pick up plastic pellets and other plastic waste from Sylvan Beach in La Porte. We need TCEQ to stop plastics factories from spilling these pellets in the first place.

A new EV charger is now operating at South Llano River State Park! I’ve heard a lot of people say they’re hesitant to buy an EV because they like to go camping in state parks and are worried about charging.

A fourth grade teacher assigned her students to do research on “influential Texans, past and present” and assigned this guy (who is passionate about the environment) me! I’m so honored.

Texas is home to 100s of species in need of conservation, including bird species. According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, “birds die from collisions with wind turbines, but wind energy’s toll on birds pales in comparison to other human-caused sources of bird mortality." see chart

Today the TX House will take up HB 3556 (Vasut), which would allow the state to ban wind farms in counties that have national wildlife refuges. Don't be fooled, this bill is bad for wildlife and most conservation groups oppose it. #txlege

I testified in support of a bill to create a wildlife corridor action plan yesterday. TX is #1 for animal-vehicle collisions, with thousands of crashes each year. Bridges, tunnels, fencing and connected habitats can help animals cross safely, saving the lives of people and animals alike!

I was pleased to speak at the Plastic Pollution Symposium at the @houstonzoo.bsky.social today. Our panel discussed the environmental & health threats from plastic pellets, popcorn kernel sized plastic that gets melted and molded into plastic products. 10 trillion enter our oceans each year.

This is very discouraging. There are fewer than 100 of the Rice's Whale left on the planet. It's the only great whale species that lives year-round in U.S. waters and is thus sometimes called "America's Whale."

A new Brown University study finds that cutting red tape in municipal permitting for rooftop solar could save Texas families $1,700–$2,100 on the cost of a new system by 2030, and $3,900–$4,900 by 2040. Less red tape, more solar! #txlege

Just registered Environment Texas’ position on our first bill of the session - in opposition to a bill which would prohibit the Insurance Department from considering climate change when adopting rules. Irresponsible!

This redfish caught in Matagorda Bay had a whole plastic bottle in its stomach. #txlege needs to act to cut plastic pollution. Photo from San Antonio Bay Waterkeeper.
