After today’s vote, Julio Rodríguez is one top-10 MVP finish away from hitting the next escalator in his contract…8 yrs/$260 million. He’s already at 8 yrs/$240 million.
Of course, this assumes the #Mariners exercise the club option after the 2028 season. 👀

I suspect there won’t be the free agent spending spree some #Mariners fans want.
If the 2026 payroll starts where it ended in 2025, that’s a good sign.
Also, extending SP’s who were on the IL is unwise, IMO. That’s “feel good” stuff that doesn’t improve the team next year.

Saw an X post using strand% to justify using Eduard Bazardo in a super critical spot in Gm 7 of the ALCS.
For me, that stat just doesn’t provide enough context. For example, Bazardo faced fewer hitters than five other #Mariners RP’s in high leverage situations (per FanGraphs).
Also, Carlos Vargas?

Only 99 batters faced. But he has a distractingly high hard hit rate as a big leaguer. Well, it’s distracting to me.

Not claiming I “knew” Eduard Bazardo was going to be a big contributor in 2025. But ever since he joined the #Mariners in 2023, his numbers have always piqued my interest. Particularly, his xwOBA (quality & quantity of contact allowed).

Julio had the 15th best road wRC+ prior to the All-Star break. Furthermore, his 10 home runs, .292 AVG, and .502 SLG away from Seattle ranked 15th.
