An Executive Order has been passed dissolving the Institute of Museum and Library Services. IMLS distributes Federal funds to State Libraries that then disburse funding to individual libraries throughout their state. Some of the programs that were funded by IMLS in my state last year included but was not limited to: Online tutoring through Homework Alabama, The Library for the Blind and Physically Disabled, Collection Development Grants (My library has used this to purchase audiobooks, physical books, books on Libby, materials for Library of Things, DVD's, Video Games, etc), Technology Upgrades (ex. new computers), Interlibrary Loan (this allows libraries to send materials from one library to another. So, if you have a patron who is looking for a book you don't have, you can ILL the book and have another libraries copy sent to you for your patron to pick up), IT Support Services, the Summer Library Program, Digitization and other preservation of local history, Statewide databases like Ancestry (Genealogy), Chilton (Car manuals), and Learning Express (practice tests to help people improve reading, math, etc. skills). To be clear, the loss of federal funding for these things does not mean that they will disappear completely. What it does mean is that states will have to either increase taxes to pick up the missing funding themselves, or they will have to reduce what is available to the public. For example, a portion of state and local taxes is earmarked for the purchase of books, etc every year. Libraries will still be able to spend that money on materials, but any additional materials they would have bought with the Collection Development Grants from the IMLS won't be able to be purchased. Which means less books, movies, games, etc for the public. Libraries could still fund Ancestry .com, but they will have to choose between moving funds away from, say, book purchases to fund it or, if their state government opts to, increasing state and local taxes to fund it.

When Trump lost the 2020 election and stole all the classified documents he was stealing from the National Archives. When he refused to return the top secret documents the librarians sicced the FBI on him. Now back in power, he's been firing all the people involved in that case. This is facism.

Historians will have a word for Americans who join MAGA, not because they hate LGBTQ/POC, but out of hope for restored patriotism, or sense of economic anxiety, or hope to preserve their religious values, or dislike of their opponents. That word is MAGA. Nobody will care bout their motives anymore.
