British Logic Colloquium Day 2

It is an amazing event. I am so grateful to have been given the chance to share my thoughts and ideas 🦋 with colleagues from various backgrounds who share a love of logic.

Last year, I was overjoyed to receive an NIH NRSA fellowship to study toddler brains and caregiving effects on memory at Columbia. Last night, my grant was terminated.

I am moving towards ideas I have been cherishing: how to prepare OURSELVES and OUR STUDENTS to work OUTSIDE academia.

The HaPoC session at APA Central Fri 28.02 (see my previous post) is about transition from academia to business.
February 28, 2025 at 11:08 AM
Those of you who are at APA Central (Virtual) please join us tomorrow, Friday 28.02, for a HaPoC (History and Philosophy of Computing) with two back-to-back sessions.

More in comments.
2025 Central Division Meeting - Virtual (Entirely Online)
To present or actively participate in sessions, you will need a computer, smartphone, or tablet with a camera, microphone, and internet access (ideally, high-speed internet access). To view session recordings, you only need a computer, smartphone, or tablet that can play videos.

I am wondering about the differences between the concept of computing, the concept of computation, the concept of computability and also about incomputable, uncomputable and non-computable. Please share your insights! In any language (English is just an example here)

I never know: if I have not published the paper yet, can I talk about its content? I do at seminars or conferences when I present the draft. I do not publish on arXiv, but so many do... I would like to write here: I have just submitted the paper on... but I am hesitant… Hm. Well, I just submitted :)

As a philosopher I use in my daily work ChatGPT, Claude and DeepL. What do you use?
November 22, 2024 at 2:24 PM
I have started lecturing on the use of critical thinking and prompting. Does anyone have a similar assignment and would be willing to share their experiences?

Unsure what I think about that… I suppose science can progress faster while assisted with AI. But admittedly, the opening for potential intellectual abuse is worrying.
ASU moves towards using ChatGPT (not instructors) to teach its students composition & "help" them write ...🙄
