trance depleting to zero when you die is actually incredibly annoying because now you can't trance in the place where you want to, which snowballs into even more resource expenditure

don't be fooled by its short and easygoing nature, this game definitely has some teeth and is harder than like, a good number of other lunatic 1ccs. definitely one of the most fun and well done mechanics in the series though, highly recommend

I think too many people are looking at this post, getting a takeaway that "novice modes are bad", and responding to that.
that's not what it's getting at - novice modes are wonderful, but there's already enough of them; *your* game does not need a novice mode, don't worry about it

I'll keep saying this over & over - nobody got into shmups to play novice modes. They got into them because they saw Hibachi, Larsa, an Ikaruga double play or something like that. Devs gotta be confident & have a punk attitude & spend less time thinking about novices

Some modern STGs are conscious of possibly being anyone's first arcade scrolling shooter, and bend themselves into knots trying to be an entire genre tutorial before being their own identifiable game.
