EPA, CDC, USAID and other data sites of federal government are all down or being scrubbed of long-term data that WE THE TAXPAYERS paid for. I teach with these tools! Why are our universities saying nothing about loss of access to information and research implications? I cannot believe the silence 🧪

There are pages disappearing. Datasets disappearing from the CDC and no doubt other places. I hope someone is keeping a record, the receipts and hopefully the underlying data. Perhaps AIs have scraped it all already and will save the day? Would love to hear from anyone! @ruchowdh.bsky.social
The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) page on the Department of Housing and Urban Development's website has been removed.

A reminder that when the cynical and now MAGA-friendly Mark Zuckerberg makes claims about alleged Biden administration pressure on FB over Covid misinformation, and screams 'Censorship!', he's also the guy who admitted his *uncensored* company played a big role in inciting a *literal genocide*:
Facebook Admits It Was Used to Incite Violence in Myanmar (Published 2018)
The company, citing a human rights report it commissioned, said it was moving to prevent further abuses of its platform in Myanmar. Critics said they were unconvinced.

Not a surprise that I completely agree with @emilybell.bsky.social However our UK Minuster for Science and Tech is taking what looks like more of an appeasement line with EM if the @thetimes.com is to be believed www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Massive change at Meta, as Zuckerberg announces they’re ditching fact checkers in the US and replacing them with community notes. Meta is probably the single largest funder of fact checking in the world right now. But that appears to be coming to an end. www.facebook.com/share/v/18Rc...?

Facebook and Instagram will instead rely on "community notes" from its users, an approached pioneered by X.

Look at the people returning to Syria. It’s was the photos of 2011 showing the beginnings of millions of people walking away which triggered my own research into my family’s refugee and migration routes earlier in the century. How many times, if ever, do we see people going home ? @noelreports.com
After Assad's regime fell, thousands of Syrians are returning home. This is the road to Damascus. Also, on the border with Turkey, thousands are in line to enter Syria.

Maybe Bluesky has “won”
November has sucked so far. One upside of the terrible nonsense is that more people are fleeing X. Many are choosing Bluesky. I’ve seen a bunch of takes about this recently, but I keep seeing things I...
