Woke leftie.
Likes guinea pigs and making good compost.

She/her
This brushtail possum was not at all concerned by how close I was. It's unusual for them to be out during the day, but she looked healthy and was munching leaves of a small tree we'd talked about removing, but I guess not if it's wildlife food

A possum found its way into the house while I was away and scared the shit out of my partner in the middle of the night, intruder noises coming from the next room. He investigated. Me, I would've cowered in bed and quietly called the cops, with a highly embarrassing outcome when they showed up.

Yeah nah to music streaming fees funding AI weapons systems instead of artistic content. I've jumped ship to Tidal. Better sound quality, much better compensation to artists. Transferred my playlists using Soundiiz. In the words of the mighty King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, "Fuck Spotify"

Revisited Ruth Thomas, an author whose books I loved as a kid. I read "The Secret," which was a new one for me. It was great, totally holds up for an adult reading it for the first time. I hope kids are still reading Ruth Thomas. Or would they find it too dated? The language, the lack of technology

Mariah's been sitting on 4 eggs, but I didn't think it likely they'd be fertilised as the roosters are so young, and none too successful in their endeavours to charm the hens. Imagine my surprise when I picked her up and found this tiny chick had hatched

For years, News Corp and its friends warned of a "free speech crisis" in Australia's universities. But after a proposal to strip funding under a very broad and controversial definition of antisemitism? Crickets.
The strange silence of Australia's free speech warriors
People who for years have clogged our airwaves with various 'free speech' crises apparently caused by anti-vilification laws are weirdly quiet today after Jillian Segal's antisemitism report.

If you ever wondered what happens when a bollard runs for office, look no further than Peter Dutton.

Stubborn, immobile, and completely detached from the flow of modern Australia, he spent his leadership standing in the way of everything, offering nothing, and somehow expecting applause for it.

Nothing tastes quite so much like Australian democracy as a crap sausage in a slice of cheap white bread (both mustard AND tomato sauce, that's how I roll). May our decidedly average prime minister run the show for another 3 years and please spare us the horror of Temu Trump

Timothy's ridiculous, hysterical crow. He's so small but thinks he's a big man. He's the chicken equivalent of a chihuahua

From a source: “Just had a co-presenter for a buildings research conference bow out. She’s a dual citizen and the FBI came knocking to ask her about her involvement in coauthoring chunks of the Paris Agreement.

Climate science is being literally (and I mean literally) criminalized.”

Exercise is so much easier in summer. The outdoors is generally warm and dry, and the sun is up for longer. And sitting on ice packs after, for the hamstring tendonitis, is way more tolerable; pleasant, even

People keep saying to me, "I need to read more," "You're so good, you read so much," and I don't get it because all this reading is an addiction & almost a problem for me because I barely do anything else. Maybe it's slightly better than watching hours of TV, but it's still sedentary & unproductive

After a sojourn in the world of crime fiction for a few months, I am back with my favourite genre of dystopia. A few chapters into Tim Winton's Juice, feeling that familiar sense of impending doom through intensely uncomfortable yet thrilling reading

Holiday to the Grampians was cancelled because of monstrous bushfire. Instead we had a staycation, with hiking in our local region, a 15 min drive away. Could be worse

Happy New Year! I kicked off 2025 at an excellent party, where middle-aged people behaved with full maturity

Took 14yo country girl niece out in Brunswick (inner north Melbourne). Fri before Xmas and everyone is shitfaced. Dinner at reputable Mexican restaurant. Dude next to her snorts a line off the bench. Walk down Sydney Rd, cop cars everywhere & road blocked. Country niece now worldly and experienced

Congratulations to this little lady for winning the "cutest" category in the work pets competition. She remains modest in her triumph over curly haired dogs and velvety cats, and is enjoying some self-esteem recovery after being told she looks like Trump. #guineapigs #pets

Early days on Bluesky. Starting my posts gently with guinea pigs. Will work my way gradually to politics and outrage

Just remembered I had an account on here. Logged in to see what it's all about. My entire feed is posts by just one person because I'm only following one person, i.e. they who sent me the invite. Might pop back in 6 months for another look and mayhap follow some more folks.
