Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce.

SHADOW PRINCE (2013)
Acrylic on Panel - 10" x 8"

My last Elric cover assignment came in 1985, but I’ve been drawn back to the albino prince often over the years. 1/2
Against the twilight sky, the albino prince Elric dressed in black leather with silver accents stands casually with thumbs tucked into his belt and the flat of one foot propped on the inside of his opposite knee. He gazes off panel right at a sunset unseen. His cloak flaps behind him, mostly rendered in abstract as if casting a demonic bat-like shadow. A band of orange stretches low in the sky providing contrast to the rocky outcrop he stands upon. Behind him a skeletal bush catches the last magical rays of the sun, bathing in detail the textured ridges and wild bends of the bare, gnarly branches.

On my way home one day I saw this low fog over the river in a small valley park and I made the spontaneous choice to turn into the park and get out to take photos on a dreary, rainy, winter day in Midwest US.
