Happy to share, that we did release an update to our @kafkastreams.bsky.social UI in #ConfluentCloud.

We are now showing more detailed information about instances, threads, running/rebalancing state, and JMX metrics.

Check it out and let us know what you think!

"A lot of people assumed it was their own fault for not just “getting” it."

It's hard to find many major cracks in what you might think is smooth DX for just this reason. This is why honest friction logs over high traffic user flows are so valuable!

My internal math hobbyist and philosopher balks every time I see unbounded Flink tables referred to as “infinite”, but I’ll let y’all have it as a loanword

This is a screenshot from the ATProto docs. No leading $, no newline business that gets messed up when I copy this over to the terminal. Might seem trivial, but the seconds it takes to get to a locally running an app so devs can follow along the tutorial are critical. The fewer, the better.

Thanks for the write up, Maggie! Spent the weekend moving house but if I get a spare moment to myself this week I plan to crack my knuckles and give DeepSeek a spin on my personal laptop… probably some side project with ATProto
Reluctantly spent part of the weekend trying to interpret the DeepSeek R1 manic panic happening on the hell site.

Took a minute, but wrote myself notes to clarify the basics: maggieappleton.com/2025-01-deep...

TLDR; a cheaper, higher-quality, open-source reasoning model for everyone. Net good.

been reading a lot of comments today about how people find man pages hard to read and it made me mad (why do they have to be so hard!)

so I'm giving away 300 copies of Bite Size Command Line to folks for whom $12 is a lot of money! (with code BUYONEGIVEONE)

Bsky looks like X but could just as easily been an old school forum. It’s all in the ATProtocol and positions bsky for an increasingly fractionated social media landscape. Read up: arxiv.org/html/2402.03... and bsky.social/about/blog/5...

Those “brag docs” are great references for when you want to make a case for yourself professionally to others (promotion season etc). But they are even more important for your own bad days. If you don’t have one, think about it for a New Year’s resolution
If you’re the kind of person who easily forgets what you’ve accomplished, you need a practice for reminding yourself. Count the years, the finished projects, the progress, the praise, count it all up and use it as evidence against the ever present criticism in your head that you’re not doing enough.

Data viz friends, are you aware of any stickers that are specifically meant for creating charts? Doing a manual repo viz exercise and I'm probably just going to order some planner stickers but I'm curious

Did you know that user follows in atproto work like hyperlinks? User A follows user B, that means that there's only a follow record in A's repo. Universal indexing takes care of B's list.

What’s the name of the website design aesthetic that all these LLM companies use? You know the one, pastels, watercolor, hand-drawn icons, friendly serif fonts…
