I spoke with Josh Stein about what he's accomplished during his first 100 days in office, the ongoing Helene recovery efforts and what comes next for the first-term governor.

Stein marks first 100 days with wins — so far. Tough tests are coming.
In an interview with Carolina Public Press, Stein revisits his recent successes while looking ahead to what he still wants to accomplish.

Read my profile of new Lieutenant Gov. Rachel Hunt — Josh Stein's second-in-command who is determined to return normalcy to the office. And if her last name sounds familiar, that's because her dad served as N.C.'s governor for a record 16 years.

In statewide office for the first time, Hunt handles her role with a certain ease. But then, she's no stranger to how Raleigh works.

The final Helene damage and needs assessment was just published by the NC Office of State Budget and Management: www.osbm.nc.gov/hurricane-he...

It lists an expected federal contribution of $25.9 billion, which means N.C. expects Gov. Roy Cooper’s federal funding request to be carried out in full.

It’s increasingly likely that Congress will approve billions in disaster relief next week. Meanwhile, the #ncga is embroiled in a political fight over their own “relief” bill.

Consider my latest story for your evening read:

Residents of Mountain Island Lake claim Duke Energy has repeatedly mismanaged lake levels, causing major floods that destroyed and swept away multiple homes.

Did homes along lake have to flood? Residents and Duke Energy disagree.
Federal agency hasn't yet weighed in on whether Duke's timing of water releases from dams near Mountain Island Lake was managed properly.
